Industrial Engineer
Ivan Buxton Gay Jr. has worn numerous hats and helmets in his career. A man from humble beginnings, Ivan’s upbringing inspired him to achieve success no matter what. He originally set out to become an Industrial Engineer, pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering from his local State University. After equipping himself with the Principles of Engineering, Ivan quickly pivoted into the workforce as a Land Surveyor for the State Highway Department. As a Bridge Surveyor, Ivan played an integral role in the development and building of Interstate 40 and I-85.
Navy Veteran
Ivan Buxton Gay Jr. was called to serve his country during the Vietnam War. Ivan joined the Navy in active enlistment for a two year tour. Though it was difficult to be away from his loved ones, Ivan was honored to serve his country alongside brave military members. The greatest honor of his military career was working aboard the USS Forrestal as part of the Navigation Group. In this capacity, Ivan’s leadership communication skills were developed to precision. Before receiving his honorable discharge from the Navy, Ivan served stateside in the Navy Reserve for four additional years.
Entrepreneur & Small Business Owner
Ivan Buxton Gay Jr. was a Small Business Owner in the restaurant industry. He made his first stride into the entrepreneurial realm in 1968. Taking on critical roles both upfront and behind the scenes, Ivan was hands-on in growing the restaurant business. Like anything else in life, the business had its ups and downs. These experiences only made him stronger and wiser as an entrepreneur, teaching him to persevere no matter what. Ivan was fulfilled by the restaurant business. His sense of accomplishment was not merely a statistical success of turning a profit. Ivan’s greatest accomplishment as a small business owner was building a community.
