Steven Hyland is a Long Island–based Football Coach, Wrestling Mentor and Youth Sports Advocate. Hyland coaches in the Suffolk County athletics community — and if you ask him, this is where the next big player is going to be from!
Former Scholar-Athlete
Steven Hyland is a coach who knows the ins and outs of the game — because he has played it himself. And he’s not just a casual player either: Hyland knows how it feels to play under the heat of those late night field lights.
A former student-athlete, Steven Hyland played football and competed in wrestling at both the high school and collegiate levels. Hyland led his team to the All-Stars at Islip High School and Choate Rosemary Hall. After high school, he went on to play football at Michigan State and Cornell. Playing for Big Ten teams in the Ivy League circuit was an honor — but certainly not a walk in the park. Competing at such a high level required dedication and responsibility. While football and wrestling require skill and training, being a scholar-athlete adds a twist that requires resilient balance. As a coach, he consistently reminds his kids: always put studying first.
Football Coach
Steven Hyland is a football coach in Long Island youth athletics programs. Hyland develops training programs that focus on the mental just as much as the athletic development of players. His athletic development programs address all areas of training, from strength and conditioning to position-specific drills for offensive and defensive lines. Hyland’s coaching strategies emphasize the importance of team leadership, communication and sportsmanship — on and off the field.
Wrestling Mentor
Steven Hyland is deeply involved in the wrestling community of Long Island youth athletics. His training programs help wrestlers improve techniques such as grappling, conditioning and strength training. As in his football coaching, Hyland’s wrestling mentorship focuses on mental resilience as much as physical fitness training. A role model to young wrestlers seeking to be a positive influence, Hyland reminds athletes that determination, dedication and perseverance are key to success — on the mat and in every other aspect of their academic career.
