From Community Theater to Theatrical Design
Jason Wehrenberg is a Theatrical Design Consultant with deep roots in local and community theater. He got his start backstage by building sets, hanging lights, and running sound cues for small community productions. Those early years taught him something most audiences never see: design is what makes a story believable. A well-built set tells the audience where they are. Costumes tell them who the characters are. Lighting and sound tell them how to feel. Today, Wehrenberg consults on all five elements of theatrical design: scenery, costumes, lighting, sound, and props. He works most often with community theaters and theater nonprofits that want professional-quality productions on a limited budget. For Wehrenberg, strong local theater is the backbone of the performance arts, and every stage deserves good design.

Jason Wehrenberg is also an Aspiring Director and a self-described film buff. His interest in the history of cinema grew alongside his work in theater, and he sees the two art forms as closely linked. Both depend on visual storytelling, careful staging, and design that serves the story. On his Broadway blog, Wehrenberg shares 2026 movie reviews, 2027 movie previews, and news on upcoming Broadway shows and touring musicals and plays for the 2026/27 season. He writes for fellow theater buffs and TV & movie buffs who want to understand how the work gets made, not just whether it’s worth watching. As he works toward directing his own projects, Jason Wehrenberg continues to study the theatrical and cinematic arts from both sides of the curtain.
